Going Back To Sky Pond...

In order to get some practice with our new gear, we are planning a trip to RMNP (Rocky Mountain National Park) in Colorado this summer. We have two big hikes that we're prepping for. The first hike I finished last year, but Mom only made it to the snow field below the waterfall. It's the hike that's known as Sky Pond. It's 9 miles round trip and starts from the popular Glacier Gorge Trailhead. It has a 1780 feet elevation gain, but ends at the most beautiful place I have ever been. (This is the hike the chair bribe was for.) Mom stopped before the waterfall because there was so much snow that was still melting that it was creating a slushy top with a stream running underneath. Super slippery! I hiked up the snow field with my Aunt Keri using poles. When I came back down, I slipped and slid a good hundred feet down the hill. Mom tried to video the whole thing, but luckily missed most of it! We are hoping that going a few weeks later in July and possibly leaving early in the morning will fix the slushy snow problem. Time will tell.
